Caring for stainless steel jewellery: how to keep it looking beautiful

Stainless steel jewellery is durable, rust-free and made for everyday wear. With a little care, the gold-tone or silver-tone coating also stays beautiful for a long time.

What is 304 stainless steel?

304 stainless steel is a rust-free steel that is often used for jewellery. It is durable, does not tarnish like silver and is well suited to everyday wear. The gold-tone or silver-tone look is created by an IP or PVD coating.

The 5 most important care tips

  1. Perfume and cream first: Apply perfume, body lotion and hairspray before putting on your jewellery.
  2. Avoid chlorine: Take off your jewellery before going to the swimming pool or hot tub.
  3. No long baths: Brief contact with water does no harm, but you should avoid long baths or showers.
  4. Clean gently: After wearing, wipe the jewellery with a soft, dry cloth. If necessary, a little lukewarm water with mild soap will help – dry thoroughly afterwards.
  5. Store separately: Place necklaces, bracelets and earrings individually in a jewellery box or pouch so that they do not get tangled or scratched.

What you should avoid

No harsh cleaning agents, no scouring sponges and no silver polish – they can damage the coating.
